Sales Tax Increase for All Hotels in Baja California Sur
Dear Guests and Friends of Casa Natalia –
Recently, the Mexican Senate gave final approval to a measure that will raise the sales tax in Baja California and other border regions by 5 percentage points, effective January 2014. At that time, all businesses and hotels in the Baja California Sur, including us, will need to reflect that increase in their prices.
The tax increase is part of President Enrique Peña Nieto’s fiscal reform package.
Historically, Border zones have had a lower sales tax — technically known as a value-added tax, or IVA — for more than three decades. The affected areas includes the state of Baja California, Baja California Sur and a 12.5-mile zone that run along Mexico’s entire U.S. border, a section of Sonora outside of the strip and parts of the states of Chiapas and Quintana Roo on the southern border.
